Written Description of Project
In our first project in BDS 102 we were assigned to create and map a new outlook on the aspects of photography and how it can be completely different than how we usually take pictures. It was geared towards teaching us a new way of seeing, rather than just through a lens, but more of how we see the space around just that captured rectangle in time. Throughout the project we scouted out either interesting places or people that showed the essence and aspects of time, and also everything around a photo we don’t get when we just snap a small part of its surroundings. After we critiqued on places and ideas we had on how we wanted to construct our particular place, we learned how to put it together to either be one seamless piece that looks like the original environment or space we were looking at or it could also be more jagged and abstract, such as using multiple locations. Many of us went back to our locations to reshoot correctly, which worked best by standing in one spot and taking dozens of pictures of that one environment. Zooming in for the detail was also a good tip that was given during the critique to include the requirement of 75 photos in the final piece. The whole process included making models with four locations, and then one refined with 25 photos, and then critiquing all of our ideas to make sure we were on the right track. After we had our idea set, it was time to assemble the final piece, which was mostly like putting together one huge puzzle.
